Boston Public Schools & Junior Achievement of Greater Boston Partner to Launch 3DE Schools by Junior Achievement

Boston, Massachusetts — Boston Public Schools and JA of Greater Boston launched 3DE Schools by Junior Achievement at The Burke High School in Dorchester. An innovative high school model accelerating student engagement and academic outcomes through an instructional model that is reengineering high school education to expand economic opportunities for all students by making education more experiential and relevant. 3DE launched in September 2023 at The Burke High School with plans to expand into additional schools following the successful integration at the initial location.

Lindsa McIntyre, Deputy Chief of Schools at Boston Public Schools says “3DE is an extraordinarily inclusive and innovative opportunity to align our focus on instruction, culture and climate and attendance in real life project-based experiences that bring students to the center of the work and to the heart of the learning environment. We are so fortunate to have such a partner in growing student outcomes!”

3DE Schools by Junior Achievement launched in 2015. There are currently 44 3DE schools demonstrating consistently positive outcomes among student engagement, academic gains, and development of transferable competencies. Schools with 3DE report 20% fewer cases of chronic absenteeism, 33% increase in graduation rates, and increases in reading and math proficiency on state assessments. 3DE is currently in many of the largest urban school districts in the country including Atlanta, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Orlando, Palm Beach, Tampa Bay, and Washington, DC.

The learning at 3DE Schools is anchored in competency-based case methodology. These cases are a platform to connect an interdisciplinary project-based approach to standards-based learning. JA of Greater Boston is proud to collaborate with Truist Bank, Deloitte, Enterprise Holdings, Arby's, Brainly, and Delta Air Lines as case partners to bring the lessons to life. Local volunteers will share their expertise through volunteerism in the classroom, supporting our students' learning journeys. Moe Blaustein, Senior Director at Brainly says “Brainly is thrilled to partner with JA of Greater Boston and 3DE Schools. We’re confident that the competency-based approach of our cooperation will help give young learners a unique opportunity to acquire the life and professional skills that we look for in candidates who apply for jobs at our organization.”

Radhames Nova, President & CEO of JA of Greater Boston says, “I appreciate our partnership with Boston Public Schools and 3DE Schools to bring this innovative instructional model to the bright students at The Burke High School. 3DE Schools’ cohort-based, experiential, and case-based pedagogy will help students at The Burke connect their academics with critical competencies that will prepare them to succeed in the future.”

This announcement follows an extensive due diligence process with leadership from Boston Public Schools, The Burke High School, 3DE Schools, and JA of Greater Boston. Throughout the 2022-23 academic year the team worked collaboratively with school administration and teachers to prepare for the launch in fall 2023. The Burke will work in partnership through a dedicated local team, as well as engagement from the 3DE regional and national team. JA of Greater Boston will continue to source partnerships with businesses that are drivers of local economic development and expanding careers in in-demand fields.
